If somebody's expecting a new member of the family, there are a lot of quick, easy and inexpensive ways to host a baby shower.
Create a cute centerpiece that can make for a lovely gift with a 'diaper cake.' The process is easy. You'll need newborn size diapers available at any store, three large rubberbands and a handful of small ones, a cardboard cylinder from a paper towel role and of course, plenty of fun ribbon. Place the cardboard cylinder upright, then roll each diaper and secure with a small rubber band around the cylinder. Form a circle then secure the group of diapers with the large rubber band. Repeat the process for the next two layers of the 'cake,' then use the ribbon to cover and hide the rubber bands by tying it around each layer. Then add in finishing touches to 'garnish' with baby toys, pacifiers, flowers, etc.
Treat guests to equally fun (and functional!) party favors by buying sample size beauty products, nail polish or other small pampering items -- just tie a bit of the same ribbon used on the cake on each. When it comes to snacks, anything goes! Check with favorite local restaurants for catering menus. It can be an easy and tasty way to treat everybody with less mess. -- Jeanne Blain
