Moms have cornered the home cooking arena and over the years have more than inspired their fair share of restaurants, diners and favorite dishes. Who can't forget a meal that was made at home with a mom's touch? Bring your mom's classic dishes into the present with your own updated version. Take her time honored recipe and put your own spin on it -- a unique ingredient, different spin. We did it with one mom's classic pepper steak, which she made with standard white instant rice, steak and sauteed peppers secretly mixed with a little au jus. Our two versions varied. One brought in a variety of peppers, the other used organic wild grain rice instead of instant white rice, kept the peppers a bit on the crunchy soft side and worked in a little soy sauce. It's a fun and great way to play tribute to your mom, especially for modern dinner fetes with friends today.
